A Soldier’s Perspective on Mental Health

There is a lot of talk about impostor syndrome, work/life balance, burnout, helping others, and other topics that impact our mental health as developers. We all deal with it and often feel like there is no way to get out of that rut.

When Scott was a soldier, he faced all of these things and more. Sometimes the issues he faced had life or death consequences, and he had to learn how to work through them in a healthy manner.

While developers likely aren’t making life and death decisions daily, this talk won’t minimize the issues a developer faces when compared to issues a soldier faces. Instead, it will draw parallels between the two to help developers understand how they can justify taking a healthier course of action.
